What is the commitment to join your weekly co-op? Each family commits to providing both volunteer and financial support and must agree to all the guidelines outlined in the handbook. Full-time volunteers are assigned a job for each of the three “classroom” quarters (18 weeks). These jobs will likely vary each quarter and include only one teaching/planning intensive quarter. Part-time volunteers are assigned a job for one** of the six-week quarters. There is a $50 supply fee per family. This fee is nonrefundable after the first class-day. Part-time volunteers will also pay a $175 tuition fee to help offset costs. All adults present at the co-op must have up-to-date Safe Environment Training through the Diocese of Colorado Springs and submit a parish volunteer application.
**Note: if you would like to join the co-op as a part-time volunteer but are unable to commit to teaching responsibilities for health or other reasons, please contact us to discuss other options.
What about infants and toddlers? Childcare is provided by co-op members for children of teachers and assistants.
How do you assign volunteer tasks and teaching assignments? We try our best to fit volunteer assignments with the needs and talents of each family. Our academic year is divided into four 6-week quarters. Volunteer positions are set for each quarter. (For example, if you are assigned to assist in the Pre-K classroom for the second quarter, you are present and assisting for those 6 weeks, all in a row.) Part-time volunteers will be assigned to one quarter (6 weeks), and full-time volunteers are assigned to 3 quarters (18 weeks). During the 3rd Quarter we will have an “open” quarter that is focused on six weeks of educational presentations/liturgical activities followed by fellowship lunches. Please see our Academic Calendar for this year's schedule.
A weekly co-op is not right for my family. Are there other homeschool activities for Catholics in Douglas County? Yes! Douglas County Catholic Home Educators organizes homeschool events and activities open to all families, not just co-op members. Sign up to be on our email list for activities and events. **NEW THIS YEAR: As noted above, our 3rd Quarter will be an “open quarter.” We will not have our formal classroom co-op days during this quarter. Instead, we will have a presentation given by organizations from the community (such as Castle Rock Fire Department or Nature’s Educators) or a liturgical activity. All families are invited to join during the 3rd quarter and stay for fellowship and lunch afterward.**
